Fairchild Semiconductor Breaks Ground on New East Coast Headquarters in Scarborough

New England Expedition announces that Fairchild Semiconductor has officially broken ground on their new development at Gateway Square in Scarborough. The construction process will take 12-14 months to complete. The 90,000 square foot LEED's Silver Certified, mid-rise, ultra-modern building will be one of the most celebrated, eco-friendly, 'green' office structures ever built in the state of Maine. Gould Evans Architects are the designers and Martini Construction will be completing the project.

Kevin London, Fairchild's Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Administration, projects that the building will house about 380 employees, most of them engineers. "The unique design and open floor plan was chosen to encourage the creative work that will happen inside," London adds.

The building will be a centerpiece for New England Expedition's vision of Scarborough's Gateway Square on the east side of Payne Road. The campus will include retail shops, a conference center, and a 130 room hotel. All of the planned buildings at Gateway Square will possess LEED certification according to the developer. New England Expedition,
is also the developer of the Gateway Shoppes plaza across the street, featuring Cabela's, and the soon to be added Famous Dave's restaurant.

Jeff Messer, Scarborough town council chairperson, feels that this ground breaking is significant in representing a commitment that has become reality. "Over 20 years ago many of us had a grand plan for the Haigis Parkway area and that is all now coming to fruition. Scarborough is a prime location for corporate office development, and this inspiring building will be a true gateway for more to come," Messer explains.
